After almost a year of parenthood, we are still adjusting to our new life with baby. Many things have changed, especially the way we travel. After all, traveling with a baby requires a much more thoughtful planning process about where to eat, sleep and what to do. Our answer to a fabulous mini family holiday; the beach!
There are so many amazing things about living in Portland; one of the best has to be our close proximity to the Oregon Coast. Sure, I haven’t actually attempted to go into the icy water since I was a child and you certainly won’t see people sun bathing, but is sure is breathtaking. And if you’re looking for a place to relax, this is it. Here are few tips for your next Cannon Beach excursion:
Where to stay:
The Ocean Lodge
We opted for a pet-friendly cottage featuring a spacious room with a fireplace, mini kitchen and Jacuzzi tub. Though it’s not exactly inexpensive, you can count on getting a lot of bang for your buck. We loved the selection of over 700 DVDs (great for naptime) and turndown service that includes chocolates on your pillow. The highlight for us was the complimentary continental breakfast in the cozy cabin like lobby. Homemade raspberry white chocolate scones. Need I say more?

Grub:
Best Ocean View: The Wayfarer
Fresh northwest fare, we dined on Halibut Steverino and Filet Mignon. The food was delicious and the ambiance, warm and inviting.
Best Bloody Mary: The Driftwood Inn Restaurant
A great lunch spot while you’re perusing the downtown shops and galleries. Be warned though, they only have two highchairs and you may end up with your bambino on your lap.
Most Kid Friendly: JP’s
We feasted on tasty clam chowder and hazelnut crusted halibut. I loved that they offered a sippy cup and that the children’s menu is inside a Dr. Seuss book. Very friendly and comfortable.

Ryan dines at The Wayfarer in his favorite pajamas. That's how he rolls.
Not to mention…
The Purple Moon Boutique – Women’s clothing and accessories
The White Bird Gallery – Art and jewelry by NW Designers
Bruce’s Candy Kitchen – Handmade confections and award-winning salt-water taffy. It’s all about the chocolate peanut butter taffy.
Warren House Pub – We love this place! They have a beer garden patio where dogs are welcome to hang out while you sip on a local brew.
And of course, long walks on the beach and an exploration of the tide pools next to Haystack Rock are a must!
